Andhra Pradesh government pledges transparency in cotton purchases

Andhra Pradesh agriculture minister K Atchannaidu has announced the state government will maintain transparency in cotton purchases for the current season. Farmers cultivated cotton on 5.79 lakh hectares, expecting a yield of 6 lakh tonnes.
To ensure fair and efficient procurement, the government has released guidelines for cotton purchases. In the initial phase, 50 cotton purchase centers will be established across the state. Good quality cotton will be purchased at a rate of Rs 7,521 per quintal, with the final price determined based on the cotton's quality.
To enhance transparency and efficiency, cotton purchases will be conducted online. A dedicated software system will be available at all cotton purchase centers. The government aims to procure cotton through CCI-recognized ginning mills, spinning mills, and agricultural market yards.
Safety measures are also being implemented to prevent accidents at cotton purchase centers. The minister has directed officials to ensure that centers have insurance facilities and closed-circuit cameras. A committee comprising officials from various departments, including agriculture marketing, revenue, police, agriculture, and fire services, will oversee the cotton procurement process.
