Better Cotton increases traceability to Australia, boosts sustainable sourcing

Better Cotton has increased its traceability solution to Australia, a major step in its 2030 Strategy to increase transparency in cotton sourcing. Initiated after the strategy's launch in late 2021, the traceability programme responds to growing global scrutiny and new regulations demanding greater supply chain visibility.
Following extensive consultation with over 1,500 supply chain stakeholders and backed by €4 million in retail member funding over four years, Better Cotton launched its traceability solution in late 2023. It includes a robust Claims Framework and Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard, with implementation already underway in countries like India, Mali, Pakistan, Spain, and Turkiye.
On May 29, 2025, Australia joined this list, with 156 myBMP/Better Cotton farms participating for the 2024/25 season. Over two million bales, or approximately 481,000 metric tonnes, are expected, with ginning having started in April.
The system supports Segregation (single and multi-country) and Controlled Blending sourcing models, allowing retailers access to verified country-of-origin cotton. Suppliers also benefit from a fit-for-purpose platform to trade both mass balance and physical cotton. With its strong sustainability credentials and advanced supply chain infrastructure, Australia is a strategic addition in Better Cotton’s mission to transform cotton production globally.
