Central Silk Board to celebrate 75 years of revolutionising India’s silk industry

The Central Silk Board (CSB) is marking its 75th anniversary with a grand celebration in Mysuru. This milestone commemorates India's dominance in the global silk industry. India boasts of a unique distinction of producing all four commercial silk varieties: Mulberry, Tasar, Eri, and Muga. Since CSB's inception, India's silk production has soared, with raw silk yarn production jumping from a mere 1,242 meters to a staggering 38,913 meters today. Exports have witnessed a similar trajectory, rising from a meager Rs 0.41 crore to a massive Rs 2,028 crore.

Besides this, Mulberry cultivation has grown fivefold, and productivity has seen a sevenfold increase. Additionally, advancements have reduced the amount of cocoons needed to produce silk, making the process more efficient.

The Platinum Jubilee celebration will showcase these achievements and more. Attendees can expect a silk product exhibition, a documentary on CSB's journey, and cultural programs. Awards will recognize outstanding contributions from farmers, stakeholders, and scientists. The event will also see the launch of a commemorative stamp cover and publications on sericulture research. This landmark occasion brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to celebrate India's enduring legacy in silk production.
