Cotton arrivals rise in India, Gujarat and Maharashtra lead the way
As the cotton season draws to a close, some states have witnessed a significant increase in daily cotton arrivals. Latest estimates indicate, Gujarat and Maharashtra have emerged as the top two cotton-producing states, contributing substantially to the country's overall cotton output.
As per statistics released on September 12, 2024, shows that Gujarat has recorded a daily arrival of 2,700 bales (170 kg each), totalling 8.92 million bales for the season. Maharashtra, closely following, has reported a daily arrival of 1,500 bales, amounting to 8.88 million bales.
Other notable cotton-producing states include Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. While their daily arrivals may be lower compared to Gujarat and Maharashtra, they still play a crucial role in India's cotton industry.
The strong performance of these states is attributed to favorable weather conditions and increased cultivation. The cotton industry is a vital economic driver for many regions in India, providing employment opportunities and contributing to the country's textile exports.
