Cotton farmers in Telangana demand immediate CCI purchase centers

BRS leader and former minister, S Niranjan Reddy, has raised concerns about the plight of cotton farmers in Telangana. He urged the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to open purchase centers immediately to mitigate farmers’ financial burden. Due to heavy rains, farmers are struggling to store their cotton, leading to significant losses. The absence of CCI purchase centers has forced farmers to sell their cotton to middlemen at significantly lower prices than the support price.
Reddy criticized the state government for failing to establish CCI centers, leaving farmers vulnerable to exploitation. He questioned why Telangana farmers are receiving a lower support price for cotton compared to their counterparts in Gujarat.
The former minister demanded that the central government intervene to ensure that Telangana farmers receive the same support price as Gujarat farmers. He also emphasized the need for the state government to take responsibility for the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of the state's economy.
He further criticized the state government for delaying the implementation of the Rythu Bandhu scheme and for imposing restrictions on paddy quality, which are denying farmers the promised bonus. He called upon the government to address these issues promptly to safeguard the interests of Telangana's farmers.
