Indian apparel manufacturers are facing severe margin pressures as cotton yarn prices go through an aggressive upward spiral, rising almost 60 per cent. Rates have increased from about Rs 250 per kg earlier this year to nearly Rs 400 per kg, heavily disrupting fabric production and garment costing. Industry leaders say, international supply chain realignments and stringent trade restrictions on foreign competitors have increased domestic raw material consumption. In response, the Apparel Export Promotion Council has petitioned the Ministry of Commerce to implement regulatory controls on outbound yarn shipments. Exporters warn, without immediate intervention, fulfilling existing global retail contracts while maintaining operational viability will become mathematically unfeasible, threatening millions of manufacturing jobs across key textile clusters.

Established in 1978, the Apparel Export Promotion Council operates as India's apex body for garment promotion, representing thousands of export houses across key global markets. The organization targets robust export expansion through policy advocacy, financial optimization, and international market development despite recurring commodity volatility.
