Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Industry, in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), has initiated the second phase of the Egyptian Cotton Project. This initiative aims to enhance the sustainability of the entire cotton value chain, from cultivation to textile production.

Building on the success of the first phase, the project will focus on expanding cotton cultivation in key regions like Kafr El-Sheikh and Damietta. It will also provide training to farmers in both traditional and organic farming methods.

A key component of the project is the adoption of UNIDO's Better Cotton certification, the first sustainability standard tailored to Egyptian cotton. This certification, which aligns with global sustainability goals, has already expanded to cover 25 per cent of global cotton production.

By promoting sustainable practices and improving the quality of Egyptian cotton, this project seeks to strengthen Egypt's position as a leading cotton producer and exporter. This will not only contribute to economic growth but also ensure the long-term sustainability of the cotton industry.
