Fashion for Good partners AltMat to launch Atag Fiber Club

A global initiative driving sustainable change in the fashion industry, Fashion for Good has partnered Ahmedabad-based company that transforms agricultural waste into high-value materials, AltMat to launch Altag Fiber Club, a new consortium aimed at integrating AltMat's innovative fibers into mainstream production across the entire supply chain.
The Altag Fiber Club brings together a powerful group of Indian textile and apparel companies, including Adalberto, Alok, Arvind, Bhaskar Denim, Jindal Textiles, Maharaja Shree Umaid Mills, Positive Materials, Sambandam Spinning Mills, Shahi Exports, Sutlej Textiles, Sweaters India, and Vrijesh Natural Fibre and Fabrics.
The transition of conventional fibers to next-generation alternatives faces numerous systemic hurdles like limited production capacity, higher pricing, and complex sourcing logistics, Fashion for Good points out. Material innovators often struggle with the capital-intensive scaling process, difficulty securing consistent purchase commitments, and navigating a fragmented manufacturing infrastructure ill-equipped for new inputs.
These shared challenges create a systemic deadlock, hindering widespread commercial adoption despite significant innovation in alternative materials. Without structured collaboration frameworks that distribute risk and align incentives, the disconnect between promising innovations and commercial implementation continues to impede the industry's progress.
To overcome these obstacles, Fashion for Good and AltMat have developed a collaborative framework that allows brands to pool resources and commit to minimum order quantities. This approach significantly reduces financial risk for both innovators and manufacturers, fostering a more secure environment for scaling new materials.
Katrin Ley, Managing Director, Fashion for Good, states, advancing the Fibre Club with Altmat marks a significant step in scaling materials with real commercial potential. By connecting innovators like Altmat with committed brand partners, we’re building the infrastructure and demand needed to bring next-gen materials to market faster and more efficiently.”
Shikha Shah, CEO and Founder, AltMat, adds, there’s no shortage of intent to adopt next-gen materials, but there is a lack of systems to actually make it happen. With the Altag Fiber Club, we are closing that gap by connecting every link in the value chain, from farm to fiber to fashion.
