Grasim Industries boosts green energy transition at Harihar facility

Grasim Industries has formalized plans to acquire a 26 per cent equity stake in Ampin C&I Power Thirty, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) dedicated to supplying renewable hybrid energy. This strategic move is designed to satisfy the green energy requirements of the company’s manufacturing operations in Harihar, Karnataka, while optimizing long-term power expenditure.
Capped at Rs 30.60 crore, this investment facilitates access to a sophisticated captive facility featuring a 37.95 MWp DC solar capacity and 27 MW AC wind capacity. By integrating this hybrid power model, Grasim aligns its industrial energy consumption with current captive power regulations, reducing reliance on conventional grids. Market analysts view this transaction, scheduled for completion within 180 days, as a prudent mechanism for cost stabilization amidst fluctuating utility prices.
As energy management becomes central to manufacturing competitiveness, this model offers a template for other textile and fiber producers to hedge against rising operational costs. The company reiterates the arrangement is a standard commercial transaction with no involvement from related parties or promoter groups, underscoring a disciplined approach to expanding its renewable infrastructure portfolio.
A flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, Grasim Industries is a diversified conglomerate with a primary focus on viscose staple fiber, chemicals, fashion yarn, and fabrics. The company maintains a strong global footprint in textile raw materials and has expanded into paints and building materials, showing robust year-on-year financial growth.
