India’s Varsidhi Textiles leads innovation in recycled yarn production
Varsidhi Textiles has quickly risen as a leading supplier of recycled yarn, driven by a strong focus on innovation and quality. Executive Director J A Nithin outlined the company’s journey from its roots in cotton farming to becoming a pioneer in Open-End (OE) spinning. In 1991, Nithin’s grandfather established Jayachandran Spinning Mill, and by 2007, the company transitioned to OE spinning, positioning itself as an early adopter of recycled spinning systems.
Varsidhi specializes in recycled colored yarn, producing 20s, 30s, and 40s counts, with most output serving the domestic market, while some exports go to the US and South Africa. The company operates four advanced units, including a 2023 facility producing bleached white yarn for hosiery.
Known for its technical achievements, Varsidhi was one of the first to develop 40s count OE yarn in 2008. Sustainability remains central, with 60-80 per cent of yarn made from recycled materials and 100 per cent renewable energy powering its operations.
Looking ahead, Varsidhi aims to establish itself as a key player in sustainable fashion by expanding into fabric production and exploring alternative spinning techniques. Nithin mentioned that by 2030, the company plans to fully integrate fiber processing with garment production.
