India to resume trade talks with Chile and Peru in August

India is set to resume trade negotiations with two key South American nations, Chile and Peru, in August. These agreements are being pursued separately, with India and Chile entering their second round of talks, while India and Peru will engage in their eighth.

The discussions with Chile aim to broaden their existing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), implemented in 2006 and expanded in 2017, into a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA). Chile remains India's fifth-largest trading partner in Latin America. Key Indian exports to Chile include man-made yarn, autos, pharmaceuticals, while imports are dominated by minerals.

India's exports to third-largest trading partner in the Latin American and Caribbean regions, Peru increased to $1 billion in 2024-25. India mainly exports polyester and cotton yarns, and pharmaceuticals to Peru.
