Indian cotton yarn prices rally as export channels solidify

The northern Indian cotton yarn market has maintained firm growth, with benchmark rates in Ludhiana and Delhi sustaining their bullish momentum. This increase in valuation is primarily supported by higher export demand from key manufacturing hubs in Bangladesh and China, where textile players are prioritizing Indian yarn imports to reduce logistical disruptions in West Asia. Data from the first half of May 2026 indicates, 30s combed yarn has reached a threshold of Rs 330-352 per kg, reflecting the compounded impact of a depreciating rupee, which currently hovers near Rs 93.28 against the dollar and rising raw fiber costs.

While domestic garment manufacturers report moderate consumption levels, spinning mills have successfully pushed higher asking prices by leveraging strong offshore inquiries. Bangladesh remains an important destination, historically absorbing over $1.5 billion in Indian cotton yarn annually, as its own spinning capacity struggles to keep pace with voluminous global apparel orders. However, the market faces a dualistic trend; while the virgin cotton segment thrives, the recycled yarn cluster in Panipat remains subdued. Cautious home textile demand and limited visibility on future export contracts have localized buying activity to immediate requirements only. Commercial analysts suggest, if the rupee continues its downward trajectory toward projected 2026 lows, Indian spinners will likely gain further ground in the price-sensitive ASEAN markets, despite the underlying pressure of inflated energy costs on domestic manufacturing margins.

Ludhiana-based spinning consortiums and Delhi trade portals are primary facilitators of Northern India’s cotton yarn commerce, specializing in high-tenacity carded and combed yarns. They serve major garment clusters across South Asia and Europe, aiming for a 15 per cent export volume increase by fiscal year-end through enhanced digital trade integration and strategic logistics partnerships.
