As per a new report by IBEF, in the current 2024-25 season upto March 31, 2025, the Indian government has procured upto 525 lakh quintals of seed cotton, which is equivalent of 100 lakh bales, under Minimum Support Price.  Executed through the Cotton Corporation of India, this procurement makes up 38 per cent of the total cotton arrivals of 263 lakh bales and 34 per cent of the estimated total cotton production of 294.25 lakh bales in the country.

India is the world’s largest producer of cotton. Its total cotton production the 2024-25 season has been estimated at 302.25 lakh bales of 170 kgs.
