Indian textile delegation visits London to promote textile supply chain

Led by Neelam Shami Rao, a high-level Indian textile delegation, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, is currently on a visit to London to promote India’s entire textile supply chain and strengthen bilateral trade with the UK. Comprising representatives from all major Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and top exporters, the delegation aims to showcase India's competitive advantages, including its historic craftsmanship, modern manufacturing capabilities, and focus on sustainable practices.

The visit kicked off with a Textile Roadshow, co-hosted by the High Commission of India in London, the Ministry of Textiles, and the EPCs. Rao highlighted India's unique position to serve the UK market, offering a mix of tradition and scale, combined with a strong emphasis on sustainability and traceability. She emphasized, India is working to build transparent and resilient supply chains that meet global consumer expectations.

Vikram K Doraiswami, Indian High Commissioner to the UK emphasized the historic relationship between the two countries, noting that CETA creates a win-win opportunity to expand trade, investment, and collaboration in the textile sector.

The delegation also conducted sectoral meetings with UK buyers focusing on handicrafts, handloom, and carpets. These discussions centered on promoting India's Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products, strengthening sustainability and traceability measures, and establishing direct links between buyers and producers. UK buyers expressed positive interest and committed to increasing their sourcing from India.
