Indian textile industry needs skill boost, says Ramraj Cotton founder
The political instability in Bangladesh has presented a golden opportunity for Indian textile companies to expand their market share. However, the industry is grappling with significant challenges, particularly in terms of skill development and labor shortages. As KR Nagarajan, Founder and Chairman, Ramraj Cotton opines, the Indian textile sector needs to invest heavily in talent development to capitalize on the growing demand. Despite the industry's substantial exports, the lack of skilled workers, especially in garment production, is hindering its ability to scale up operations efficiently.
Nagarajan emphasizes the need for both central and state governments to prioritize skill training initiatives. By following the example of countries like Bangladesh and China, India can empower its workforce and address unemployment while simultaneously tapping into the burgeoning global textile market.
Ramraj Cotton is actively expanding operations, both domestically and internationally. The company recently launched a new store in Bengaluru and plans to open 15 more by March 2025. Additionally, it is strengthening its presence in North, East, and West India and exploring opportunities in international markets like the UAE.
