As global apparel buyers enforce stricter de-carbonization targets across their supply chains, Indian spinning and weaving units are aggressively integrating high-efficiency machinery to reduce energy intensity.
Estimates suggest, upgrading to modern, energy-optimized ring spinning frames can slash power consumption by up to 15 per cent, a crucial lever for manufacturers working on thin margins amidst volatile input costs. Beyond immediate operational savings, this transition is linked to trade compliance. Achieving energy efficiency is no longer just a cost-control measure; it is a prerequisite for sustaining exports to the European and North American markets that demand certified green footprints, say experts. By adopting solar-hybrid looms and waste-heat recovery systems, textile producers are securing their competitive standing against ASEAN rivals. This move toward circular manufacturing, supported by new state-level incentives for green industrial parks, marks a decisive departure from traditional, energy-heavy production models toward a leaner, compliant, and export-ready future for the Indian fiber-to-fabric value chain.
Ludhiana-based spinning and garmenting MSMEs are a major portion of India’s textile output, focusing primarily on cotton and synthetic blended yarns. These units target the domestic retail market and export hubs in the EU. Currently, they are scaling investments in solar integration and automated efficiency to hedge against rising utility costs.
