Captive power integration is rapidly emerging as a primary defensive mechanism for Indian textile mills managing high industrial utility rates and narrow operating margins. In line with this broader sector transition, Mafatlal Industries operationalized a 4 MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic array at its flagship Nadiad manufacturing unit in Gujarat following an investment of approximately Rs 11 crore.

Executed in technical partnership with Kosol Energie, the captive facility generates roughly 6.6 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. By directly offloading a substantial portion of the Nadiad plant’s baseline power demands from the commercial grid, the installation stabilizes long-term energy overheads across its yarn-spinning, fabric-weaving, and processing divisions.

Energy accounts for nearly 15 to 20 per cent of total conversion expenses in integrated fabric production. By locking in fixed generation costs through captive solar infrastructure, domestic mills are hedging against regional grid tariff hikes while meeting stringent Scope 2 carbon-reduction mandates required by international retail brands.

Clean energy integration, efficient manufacturing, and long-term value creation reflect how the company prepares its operational footprint for the future, observes Priyavrata Mafatlal, Managing Director, Mafatlal Industries. The initiative coincides with strong top-line momentum for the enterprise, which reported operational revenue of Rs 3,902.15 crore for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, a significant growth from Rs 2,845.30 crore recorded in the preceding fiscal period.Operating margins across the corporate structure stand to gain direct efficiency as clean energy yields reduce utility cash outflows over the project's operational lifespan.

A producer of cotton fabrics, denims, specialty school wear, and workwear uniforms, Mafatlal Industries caters to domestic retail, institutional buyers, and export hubs. The flagship Arvind Mafatlal Group entity targets operational modernization and market expansion across its institutional textile portfolio. The company achieved total revenues of Rs 3,902.15 crore in FY26. Established over a century ago, it remains one of India's oldest textile manufacturers
