Maharashtra boosts its textile ambition with new venture capital fund

The Maharashtra government is advancing its $1-trillion economic roadmap by establishing a dedicated venture capital fund to catalyze innovation across the state’s textile sector. Formalized through a state-level committee chaired by the textile minister, this seeks to bridge the funding gap for startups and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) currently operating within the textile value chain. By moving beyond traditional debt-based incentives, the state aims to attract private capital to accelerate modernization in fiber processing, yarn production, and high-performance technical fabric manufacturing.
Experts point out this initiative complements the state’s ‘Integrated and Sustainable Textile Policy 2023-28,’ which targets Rs 25,000 crore in investments. The venture fund is designed to support scalable technologies in circularity and eco-conscious production, areas where Maharashtra is rapidly building a competitive advantage. For instance, the policy gives 50 per cent subsidy, capped at Rs 10 crore for manufacturers installing Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plants, a measure already drawing interest from regional textile clusters. This institutional support is expected to empower local units to meet the stringent sustainability compliance required by international apparel brands, thereby strengthening the state’s export-led growth. As stakeholders meet at events like Bharat Tex 2026, the state’s focus remains on transforming traditional garmenting hubs into global centers for innovation and advanced material production.
