Italian textile accessory giant Mariplast aims to slash lead times for Indian spinning mills by upto 40 per cent by localizing its production in the country.

The company launched a new facility that is specifically engineered to address the high-volume demand for single-use dyeing tubes and reusable yarn carriers. By localizing production, Mariplast also aims to eliminate the logistical bottlenecks that previously hindered just-in-time yarn processing. This move aligns with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, positioning the company to capture a larger share of the country's technical textile market, which is projected to reach $40 billion by 2030.

The strategic timing of this launch coincides with a surge in domestic yarn production as Indian mills upgrade to high-speed machinery. Mariplast’s entry solves a critical ‘last-mile’ challenge: providing high-precision, GRS-certified plastic supports that can withstand the extreme thermal stresses of modern dyeing. Industry veterans note, while India has a robust spinning sector, the reliance on imported high-tech carriers often impacted cost-competitiveness. Localizing production allows the company to offer Italian engineering at a price point that matches the operational realities of Indian textile clusters, notes a company spokesperson. With patents like the FlexBravo shrinkable tube now being produced locally, Indian exporters of man-made fibers and high-end cotton yarn can ensure consistent package density, a non-negotiable requirement for the global apparel luxury segment.

Founded in 1969 in Prato, Italy, Mariplast is a global leader in the design and manufacture of plastic supports for the textile industry, specializing in yarn carriers, bobbins, and dyeing tubes. The company’s portfolio features over 1,000 items, including patented innovations like the Maripress (self-stacking tubes) and Flex-Dia (radially shrinkable tubes) designed to optimize yarn dyeing and winding.
