Pakistan's cotton yarn exports slump 32% despite 8.4% textile growth: PBS
Pakistan’s textile exports rose by 8.41 per cent year-on-year to reach $14.83 billion during July-April of FY2024-25, up from $13.68 billion in the same period last year, says the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The overall growth was led by strong performance in readymade garments, knitwear, and bedwear.
Readymade garment exports increased by 17.52 per cent to $3.39 billion, knitwear rose by 15.47 per cent to $4.12 billion, and bedwear increased by 12.18 per cent to $2.57 billion. Exports of towels, tents, synthetic textiles, and made-up articles also recorded modest growth.
However, yarn-related categories saw a steep decline. Cotton yarn exports fell sharply by 31.91 per cent, dropping to $576.02 million from $845.92 million. Raw cotton exports plunged 98.45 per cent, while cotton carded or combed exports fell by 99.28 per cent. Yarn other than cotton yarn declined by 4.08 per cent.
On a year-on-year basis, textile exports declined 1.35 per cent in April 2025 to $1.22 billion, compared to April 2024. On a month-on-month basis, the drop was steeper at 14.64 per cent from $1.43 billion in March 2025. Despite sectoral growth, falling yarn exports highlight underlying supply and cost challenges in Pakistan’s cotton value chain.
