Power loom weavers cooperative society hopes to revive defunct mill in Rihama

Shree Parvati Power Loom Weavers Cooperative Society in Jagatsinghpur, Odisha hope to revive its defunct mill in Rahama. A major local employer with 1,200 workers, the mill had shut down after the super cyclone in 1999. However, recent news about another defunct mill in the area, the Shree Sarala Spinning Mill, reopening under a public-private partnership, has sparked optimism. This announcement was made by Sampad Chandra Swain, MLA, Paradip and Minister of State, who oversees industries, skill development, and technical education. The workers hope, he will also help revive their factory.

Local officials are collaborating with the industry and textile departments to create a roadmap to reopen the power loom and address the long-standing concerns of the workers.
