R|Elan Circular Design Challenge (RCDC) 2025 announces global finalists
India's leading sustainability award in fashion, Reliance Industries' R|Elan Circular Design Challenge (RCDC) 2025, has announced its global finalists. Featuring R|Elan - Reliance's brand of engineered fabrics and yarns, this prestigious event is organized in partnership with the United Nations in India and Lakmé Fashion Week.
This year, the challenge attracted over 190 applications from more than 10 countries across India, the UK, the EU, and the APAC region. Esteemed global partners like the British Council, Redress, Fondazione Sozzani, Fashion Revolution, and Estethica were instrumental in discovering and promoting talent worldwide.
Representing India are Varshne B (CRCLE), focusing on a 360-degree circular fashion approach; Radhesh Agrahari (Golden Feathers), who ingeniously converts chicken feather waste into biodegradable, wool-like fibers; and Rishabh Kumar (Farak), championing zero-carbon, electricity-free production using handspun organic cotton and natural dyes.
International finalists include Maximilian Raynor from the UK, recognized for his innovative reuse of luxury deadstock and vegan materials with a focus on rentals and near-zero waste. From the EU, Martina Boero (Cavia) impressed with her artisanal reinterpretation of vintage materials. Jesica Pullo from Argentina (APAC & Beyond) showcased BIOTICO, an inclusive brand upcycling plastic and industrial waste while employing individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Industry leaders, including Vogue editors, designers, and sustainability experts, judged the finalists on innovation, circularity, energy efficiency, and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This initiative not only offers global visibility but also provides invaluable mentorship and industry access.
The finalists will present their work at Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI in October. The winner will receive Rs 15 lakh, a CDC Trophy, and mentorship with Orsola De Castro's Estethica, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 5 lakh.
