Salem Textile Park reconfigures masterplan to omit yarn dyeing units

The Tamil Nadu government has officially revised the development framework for the Rs 880-crore Salem Integrated Textile Park at Jahir Ammapalayam, excluding the proposed Salem Yarn Coloring Park (SYCP) from the 110.53-acre central complex. Following extended representations from local agricultural communities regarding the heavy daily water requirement of yarn coloring operations and potential groundwater contamination.

K Elambahavath, District Collector, confirms, industrial land within the main park will be strictly reserved for non-polluting textile activities, such as spinning, weaving, and fabric construction. To ensure yarn processors maintain access to wet-treatment facilities, the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) has been directed to locate alternative sites specifically equipped with mandatory Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) effluent treatment systems.

T Sashikumar, Joint Managing Director, SYCP, states, decoupling yarn dyeing from the main industrial park allows spinning and weaving infrastructure to move forward while technical evaluation continues for compliant processing zones elsewhere. Salem Integrated Textile Park operates a 110.53-acre textile manufacturing hub in Jahir Ammapalayam under a 99-year state lease. The Rs 880-crore development supports yarn processing, weaving, and dry textile production for South Indian textile markets, maintaining long-term growth plans focused on non-polluting industrial expansion and regional job creation.
