Samarth Scheme extended to train three lakh in textile sector

The Ministry of Textiles has extended the Samarth Scheme for two years (FY 2024-25 and 2025-26), with a budget of Rs 495 crore. The scheme aims to train three lakh people in textile-related skills, focusing on demand-driven and placement-oriented training.
The extended scheme will support the industry in creating jobs in the organized textile and related sectors, covering the entire value chain except for spinning and weaving. The training programs and curriculum have been updated to meet the evolving technological and market needs.
In addition to entry-level skilling, Samarth also provides upskilling and reskilling programs for workers in apparel and garmenting segments, as well as traditional textile sectors like handloom, handicraft, silk, and jute.
The scheme is implemented through partnerships with textile industry associations, government agencies, and sectoral organizations. Since its inception, Samarth has trained over 3.27 lakh candidates, with a high employment rate of 79.5 per cent. The scheme has also made significant strides in women's empowerment, with 88.3 per cent of trainees being women.
