The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce a Technology Mission on Cotton to boost the country's textile industry. SIMA Chairman S K Sundararaman highlighted the need for increased raw material production to achieve the government's goal of doubling the textile business size by 2030.

He praised the government's efforts to support the textile industry through various policy initiatives, including the National Skill Development Corporation, PMKVY, and the TUF scheme. However, he emphasized the criticality of addressing structural issues related to raw materials, particularly the inverted duty structure for man-made fibers (MMF) and the need for improved quality control measures in the MMF value chain.

SIMA's re-elected chairman and newly elected chairman of SIMA CD & RA, Sundararaman, expressed optimism about the industry's future growth, citing recent policy initiatives such as the global textile expo Bharat-Tex and the government's efforts to promote Kasturi Cotton Bharat.
