Sportking commits Rs 1,000 crore towards greenfield expansion in Odisha

Sportking India has committed Rs 1,000-crore Greenfield project in Odisha to scale up its yarn manufacturing capabilities and expand its market presence across eastern India. In the first phase of this project, Sportking India will install 150,000 spindles, which is 40 per cent addition to its current 379,000-spindle capacity, to produce premium compact, synthetic, and blended yarns. Equipped with fully automated Rieter compact-spinning machinery, autoleveler draw frames, and direct-linked winding units, the facility is designed to deliver superior yarn evenness and higher tensile strength for high-speed weaving and knitting applications. The strategic placement in Odisha reduces raw material freight costs, improves access to eastern textile clusters, and shortens shipping schedules to major sea ports for export orders.

Financed through a combination of internal accruals and long-term debt, the expansion aligns with rising global demand for traceable, eco-certified Indian cotton and blended yarns. And Munish Avasthi, Chairman and Managing Director informs, adding modern spinning assets secures the operational headroom required to serve growing orders across both domestic and international markets. Commercial production is targeted for rollout within 12 to 15 months.

Maintaining over 95 per cent capacity utilization with annual revenues exceeding Rs 2,200 crore, the company is executing a 40 per cent capacity expansion in Odisha to strengthen its textile value chain.
