Strong global demand boosts India’s T&A exports by 10.3%
...India's textile trade is showing strong momentum, defying domestic manufacturing cost headwinds through strong global demand.Recent trade performance data for the first five months of FY27, from April to August reveal, cumulative textile and apparel (T&A) shipments increased to Rs 1.43 lakh crore, a 10.3 per cent Y-o-Y growth. The upward movement increased most in August, with a 24.1 per cent rise in cotton yarn, fabrics, and made-ups with substantial double-digit gains across man-made fiber segments.
India’s international market penetration reflects a shift toward higher-value manufacturing and improved supply chain traceability, says Rajesh Mehra, Director, Apex Global Exporters. While domestic spinning mills grapple with volatile raw material inputs, overseas buyers are consolidating their sourcing through Indian fiber and fabric producers due to consistent quality compliance.
Analysts attribute the export resilience to targeted trade policies, aggressive diversification into technical textiles, and optimized maritime logistics connecting domestic production clusters to western and eastern markets. This external increase gives a vital counterbalance to domestic margin pressures, sustaining manufacturing employment and factory utilization rates across key textile hubs.
