Textile inflation rises to 12.63% Y-o-Y, puts pressure across the sector
Wholesale price data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry indicates that manufactured textile inflation hovered at 12.63 per cent year-on-year, keeping spinning mills and downstream fabric manufacturers under severe operational strain. Despite minor stabilization from previous months, raw material acquisition costs, particularly for natural fibers, synthetic filament yarns, and chemical inputs continue to outpace finished goods realizations. Mills are struggling to transfer increasing input expenditures onto apparel brands, as retail demand remains cautious.
Spinners are absorbing constant cost fluctuations across both natural and synthetic fiber segments without seeing corresponding buoyancy in finished fabric realizations, opine operation managers at spinning mill. Operating margins have narrowed significantly, forcing management teams to optimize energy consumption and streamline supply chains just to protect baseline profitability.
Analysts warn, prolonged cost pressures could delay planned capacity upgrades across regional weaving clusters. While large-scale exporters manage overheads through vertical integration, independent medium and small-scale fabric producers face acute liquidity challenges, threatening stability across domestic garment supply chains.
