Textiles Committee advances zero-defect mandate for global supply chain competitiveness
...India is aggressively realigning its textile and apparel pipeline to meet growing international quality benchmarks by prioritizing absolute error-free production and complete supply chain transparency. During recent deliberations marking the 62nd Foundation Day of the Textiles Committee in Mumbai, Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of Textiles emphasized, future export viability relies directly on eliminating manufacturing defects, ensuring strict environmental conformity, and certifying chemical compliance across every tier. To support spinning mills, fabric processors, and garment exporters, statutory testing agencies are expanding laboratory accreditations to deliver accessible restricted substance testing and eco-auditing.
Industry leaders point out, international retail corporations are now penalizing supply chain discrepancies, making tracking a baseline requirement for market entry. Global fashion brands no longer accept variable input quality; absolute compliance with ecological and physical standards is mandatory for long-term vendor retention, observes a senior trade policy consultant.
To showcase the operational benefits, a leading western apparel conglomerate recently partnered an Indian composite mill that adopted automated defect-detection technologies in its weaving division. This integration lowered fabric rejection rates by 12 per cent, simultaneously reducing waste and accelerating order turnaround times for export shipments. By embedding such rigorous error-reduction frameworks from fiber extraction to finished garments, the domestic textile sector aims to capture higher-value segments in Western markets.
Established in 1964, under the Ministry of Textiles, the Textiles Committee ensures quality standards across domestic and international textile markets. Operating nationwide eco-testing laboratories, it focuses on export facilitation, standardization, and compliance, supporting sustainable growth and technical excellence across the entire value chain.
