Tiruppur yarn manufacturers establish TYMA to tackle critical industry issues

Yarn manufacturers in India’s prominent textile hub, Tiruppur have established the Tiruppur Yarn Manufacturers Association (TYMA) to tackle critical issues impacting their industry. The new association aims to address surging cotton prices, escalating electricity tariffs, and persistent delayed payments, which are severely pressuring production costs and profitability.

Cotton prices have recently seen a significant jump, rising by Rs 2,000 per candy in just ten days, directly increasing input costs for manufacturers. In response, the association is actively seeking support from the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to help stabilize these volatile prices and ensure a more predictable raw material supply.

Despite an overall positive trend in knitwear markets, yarn manufacturers, who form the bedrock of the textile supply chain, are not experiencing the same pace of growth. This disparity highlights a disconnect where foundational industry players are struggling even as downstream markets expand. Southern Indian yarn manufacturers, in particular, are feeling the brunt of the increased cotton prices, exacerbating their operational challenges. The formation of this association underscores the urgent need for collective action and policy intervention to ensure the sustainable growth and stability of the yarn manufacturing sector in Tirupur and across Southern India.
