USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) issued cotton updates from eight key regions. In Africa, MY 2024-25 consumption is projected to grow by 4 per cent, driven by textile industry revivals in Senegal, Mali, and Burkina Faso. Brazil overtook the US in cotton production and exports for the first time, with China and Vietnam leading import demand. MY 2024/25 planted area is expected to hit a record high due to favorable prices.

China anticipates a moderate export rebound despite geopolitical challenges, higher US tariffs, and Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act enforcement. India’s MY 2024/25 cotton production remains steady, with strong export growth in cotton-based textiles and garments.

Mexico faces a decrease in cotton planting due to drought and shifting crop preferences, while sustainable manufacturing gains traction. Pakistan’s cotton production forecast is revised downward, but textile exports reached a two-year high in Q1 MY 2024/25.

Turkiye sees higher cotton production and BCI-certified cotton gains, though low garment demand pressures its textile sector. Vietnam expects a 4 per cent rise in cotton imports amid recovering global demand and compliance with sustainability regulations. The updates underscore evolving market dynamics and sustainability’s growing role in global cotton and textile industries.
