The Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) 2026 has consolidated Surat’s position as a global manufacturing center, specifically targeting a transition toward high-performance man-made fibers (MMF) and technical textiles. With the Indian textile projected to reach $213 billion by 2034, Surat has evolved beyond its traditional silk roots to account for 65 per cent of the synthetic yarn and fabric output.

Recent data reveals, the cluster has Rs 1.5 lakh crore annual turnover, with daily production capacity of 60 million meters of fabric. The development of the PM MITRA Park in Navsari, which has already secured a significant portion of its Rs 10,000 crore investment goal, is a major catalyst for this growth. This facility integrates the entire production cycle from polymer processing to garmenting  within a single ecosystem, effectively reducing logistics costs by 15 per cent.

Also, the Gujarat Textile Policy 2024 has led to modernization by with capital subsidies between 10 and 35 per cent, leading to a 28 per cent increase in high-efficiency water-jet loom installations. Despite the volatility in petrochemical-based raw material prices, the region’s shift into performance wear for international sporting events and exports to markets like the UK and Japan signifies a successful move toward premium, ESG-compliant manufacturing.

A primary hub for India's man-made fiber industry, Surat produces 90 per cent of the country’s artificial silk. The cluster serves domestic and global apparel markets with synthetic yarns and technical fabrics. Growth strategies prioritize advanced technical textiles and sustainable manufacturing, aiming for a $1.5 trillion regional economy by 2047.
