To push localized raw material sourcing and strengthen domestic supply chains, Northern Ireland-headquartered WFB Baird & Company has formalized a MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to construct an advanced wet spinning facility. The state-of-the-art unit targets production of fine-count linen yarns, a segment historically dependent on imports from European processing hubs.

Wet spinning technology remains critical for manipulating long-flax fibers into soft, uniform, high-tenacity yarns designed for premium shirting, suiting, and home textiles. By integrating upstream yarn production alongside its existing weaving, dyeing, and finishing units in Erode, WFB Baird addresses rising global demand for natural, high-performance fibers. Vertical integration is expected to cut lead times for domestic garment exporters while maintaining international standards for circularity and water management. Analysts view the move as a major boost for India’s premium textile sector, aligning with Tamil Nadu’s broader policy drive to attract high-value industrial manufacturing and capital investment.

As global fashion brands move toward traceable natural fibers, localizing wet spinning capacity mitigates supply chain disruptions and secures high-margin export avenues across European and North American retail markets.
