Wool Denim: A sustainable athleisure revolution
Greek design studio Pepper Vally and German yarn producer Sudwolle are pushing the boundaries of denim with a collaborative collection of wool-based athleisure garments. The duo aimed to create eco-friendly, lightweight denim using advanced yarns and knitting techniques. The garments utilize Sudwolle's temperature-regulating Seymour yarn and durable, water-resistant Caprera yarn.
Additionally, Tencel Lyocell and CoolMax Ecomade are blended in, resulting in reduced pilling, enhanced strength, better moisture management, and superior comfort. The collection encompasses both men's and women's pieces, including knit tees, sports bras, zipper jackets, and wide-leg pants. Designed to be versatile and long-lasting, these garments aim to seamlessly transition from day to night activities, eliminating the need for multiple wardrobe changes.
Inspired by nature's imperfections, the collection features textures and colors reminiscent of stone, wood, forest green, and deep sea indigo. While knit denim has seen mixed success in the past, with Rag & Bone's Miramar jeans being a notable exception, Sudwolle is optimistic about the concept.
They believe this collaboration "redefines denim" by envisioning a future where this beloved fabric is not only comfortable and natural, but also sustainable, inclusive, and adaptable. They envision a "green evolution of jeans" garments that can be worn anytime, anywhere, while remaining traceable from their source and performing well in diverse weather conditions.
