Yarn Syndicate Q1 loss highlights growing divergence in Indian spinning sector
...India’s cotton yarn supply chain has seen a stark operational split as standalone traders face severe earnings pressures despite a broader sector recovery. Reporting its Q1 FY27 results, Kolkata-based merchant supplier Yarn Syndicate recorded a steep revenue drop, reflecting acute headwinds for non-integrated yarn intermediaries.
The company’s consolidated revenue declined 93.5 per cent Y-o-Y and 40.7 per cent sequentially to Rs 1.63 crore during the quarter. Driven by a 74.3 per cent Q-o-Q increase in total expenses to Rs 5.91 crore, net losses increased to Rs 4.50 crore, reversing a net profit of Rs 0.43 crore from the same period last year.
This downturn contrasts with larger integrated spinning mills, which are benefiting from stabilized raw cotton costs and expanding yarn-cotton spreads of Rs 108 to Rs 110 per kg. While vertically integrated players bank on export demand from Bangladesh and China to drive double-digit volume growth, unintegrated yarn merchants face severe margin compression.
Merchant exporters without captive spinning or fabric processing facilities are bearing the brunt of rising inventory overheads and price realization gaps, noted a Mumbai-based textile analyst. The trend underlines an increasing shift toward scale and technical integration across India’s fiber and yarn market.
