15 companies weave sustainability into textile yarn on Earth Day
15 brands including John Lewis & Partners, Kering, and C&A committed to eliminating sourcing from ancient and endangered forests for their packaging and textiles. This Earth Day announcement is part of Canopy's CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives.
Forests play a critical role in absorbing carbon dioxide, mitigating climate change, and supporting biodiversity. Every year, vast swathes of forests, equivalent to two soccer fields every second, are lost to produce materials like viscose and rayon, and paper packaging.
These companies pledge to go beyond just protecting forests. They will also invest in low-carbon alternatives like Next Gen materials and advocate for global forest conservation efforts.
John Lewis Partnership's Marija Rompani emphasized their commitment to protecting and restoring nature, highlighting that signing up to Pack4Good is a positive step towards ensuring sustainable paper packaging.
Five of the companies joining the initiative are Next Gen innovators offering solutions like packaging from miscanthus grass, recycled clothing waste, or wheat straw. These alternatives provide a low-impact path forward.
Canopy's Nicole Rycroft highlighted the importance of forest conservation, stating their excitement to welcome these leaders and innovators in building a better future for the planet.
With this announcement, CanopyStyle reaches 566 brands representing over $1.14 trillion in revenue. The newer Pack4Good initiative is joined by 444 brands valued at over $249 billion.
