Archroma & Cotton Inc. renew push for sustainable cotton cycles

Archroma and Cotton Inc, leaders in sustainable textiles, renewed their collaboration to promote a circular economy in cotton production. Cotton Inc, aims to create dyes from cotton by-products and approached Archroma in 2016. The initiative targets the US, a major cotton producer. Cotton by-products like stems and leaves are traditionally used for insulation or packaging, but Cotton Incorporated saw potential for dyes.

Archrman’s research team, leveraging their expertise in sulphur dyes, developed Diresul Earth-Cotton, a dye made from US cotton by-products. This eco-friendly alternative to oil-based dyes allows for natural-colored textiles.

Mary Ankeny of Cotton Inc emphasized cotton's suitability for a circular economy, where almost every part of the plant can be reused. She highlighted their commitment to finding new sustainable practices with Archroma.

Umberto De Vita of Archroma echoed the importance of sustainability. He sees Diresul Earth-Cotton as an example of innovation driven by sustainability that benefits everyone in the textile industry. Both parties are excited to keep collaborating for a greener future in textiles.
