Better Cotton has renewed its Strategic Partnership with Cotton Australia, the official body for the country’s cotton growers, extending their collaboration until 2027. The agreement strengthens efforts to promote more sustainably produced cotton. Since 2014, Cotton Australia’s ‘my Best Management Practice’ (myBMP) Standard has been recognized as equivalent to the Better Cotton Standard System (BCSS), allowing Australian farmers to sell their cotton as ‘Better Cotton’ in global markets.

In the 2023-24 season, licensed farmers produced over 400,000 metric tonnes of Better Cotton, accounting for 40 per cent of Australia’s total cotton output. The industry supports more than 10,000 jobs and generates over AU$3.5 billion in annual export earnings.

With Cotton Australia successfully aligning its field-level requirements with Better Cotton’s updated Principles & Criteria (P&C) v.3.0, the revised myBMP Standard is set for full implementation by 2025/26. Better Cotton requires Strategic Partners to periodically reassess and update their standards to maintain equivalence with the BCSS, ensuring continuous improvement in sustainable cotton farming.

This renewed partnership reinforces both organizations' commitment to advancing sustainable cotton production and meeting global market demand for responsibly grown cotton.
