Bhilwara exports yarn and fabric worth Rs 3,800 crore annually

Bhilwara in Rajasthan, often called ‘Vastranagari’ is fast emerging as one of India’s leading textile hubs, with yarn and fabric exports alone valued at Rs 3,800 crore annually. The city’s textile sector records a total turnover of about Rs 25,000 crore, providing direct employment to 85,000 people and indirect jobs to 60,000 others.
Union minister for textiles, Giriraj Singh recently praised Bhilwara’s transformation into a textile powerhouse. The city now contributes 50 per cent of India’s polyester fabrics and suits, supported by over 850 manufacturing units that produce cotton, silk, and woolen fabrics for domestic and global markets.
Bhilwara is also outpacing national standards in modernization, with loom upgrades growing at 9.57 per cent compared to India’s average of 8 per cent. This highlights the city’s focus on innovation and efficiency in yarn and fabric production. The Rajasthan government’s Textile and Apparel Policy 2025 further strengthens this trajectory with incentives, infrastructure support, and a goal to create over 200,000 new jobs.
A notable shift is the entry of around 10,000 women into the textile workforce, enhancing both sectoral productivity and women’s empowerment. With strong policy backing and skilled manpower, Bhilwara is set to play a central role in India’s yarn and fabric future.
