The political turmoil in Bangladesh has triggered a severe crisis for the textile sector in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district. For years, Bhilwara has been a major supplier of yarn and denim to Bangladesh, accounting for half its exports worth Rs 2,000 crore annually. However, recent tensions in Bangladesh have halted this trade, leaving Bhilwara's 450 weaving, 18 processing, and 20 spinning units, employing over 2 lakh people, in dire straits.

With a monthly export value of Rs 150-200 crore to Bangladesh abruptly halted, Bhilwara's textile industry is facing a production slowdown due to payment uncertainties. While orders remain uncancelled, the fear of non-payment has forced manufacturers to halt production. This threatens the livelihoods of thousands dependent on the sector.

Industry experts believe that India could potentially capitalize on Bangladesh's crisis by capturing a portion of its textile market. However, the immediate impact on Bhilwara is severe. If India can successfully penetrate new markets, it could transform this crisis into a long-term opportunity for the country's textile sector.
