Birla Cellulose, Bhilwara Group to develop graphene-enhanced viscose fibres

Birla Cellulose, the viscose staple fibre business of Aditya Birla Group, is set to develop graphene-reinforced viscose fibres for textiles. In collaboration with Grasim Industries, the company has signed a joint development agreement with Bhilwara Group Companies to advance the initiative.
Under the agreement, Birla Cellulose will work with Bhilwara Group’s advanced materials arm, TACC Limited, which will supply graphene derivatives for fibre production. The fibres will then be used by textile producer RSWM Limited to manufacture graphene-enhanced fabrics.
Graphene, known for its exceptional strength, lightweight properties, and durability, is expected to enhance the resilience and thermal regulation of viscose textiles. The collaboration aims to create long-lasting, high-performance fabrics with advanced functionality.
Grasim Industries, a flagship company of Aditya Birla Group, has a global presence in cellulosic fibres, textiles, cement, and chemicals. Incorporated in 1947, the company reported a consolidated net revenue of Rs 1.3 lakh crore in FY24, with EBITDA of Rs 20,837 crore. The partnership highlights the growing focus on advanced textile materials, positioning Birla Cellulose and Bhilwara Group at the forefront of innovation in the industry.
