Better Cotton has renewed its standard recognition agreement with the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association (ABRAPA), extending the partnership that aligns Brazil’s Responsible Brazilian Cotton (ABR) Programme with the Better Cotton Standards System (BCSS).

The agreement, effective retroactively from October 2024 to October 2025, will automatically extend for another three years if all criteria are met. Since 2014, ABR certification has allowed Brazilian farmers to sell their cotton as ‘Better Cotton’ in both domestic and global markets.

During the 2023/24 season, 440 Brazilian farms certified under the ABR Programme produced over three million metric tonnes of Better Cotton, accounting for more than 83 per cent of Brazil’s total cotton output.

Better Cotton requires its Strategic Partners to periodically review and update their standards to maintain equivalence with the BCSS, ensuring continuous improvement in sustainable cotton production. The renewed agreement underscores the ongoing alignment between the two certification systems, reinforcing Brazil’s position as a leading Better Cotton supplier
