Brazil’s cotton exports rise in February despite price decline

Brazil's cotton exports have continued their upward trend in February 2025, according to data from the Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX). From February 1 to 14, the country shipped 148,672 tons of cotton, moving towards surpassing the 258,000-ton total recorded in February 2024.
The average daily export volume stands at 14,867 tons, marking a 9.4 per cent increase year-on-year. However, despite higher shipment volumes, revenue from cotton exports has reached $180 million so far in February, significantly lower than the $490 million recorded in the same month last year. This decline is largely attributed to falling prices, with the average export price per ton at $1,692.9, down 10.5 per cent year-on-year.
Brazil's cotton exports saw substantial growth in previous months, reaching 416,000 tons in January 2025, a 66 per cent year-on-year rise. In December 2024, exports totalled 353,000 tons, edging up 0.6 per cent, while November shipments rose 18 per cent year-on-year to 299,515 tons.
Despite the downward pressure on prices, Brazil remains a key player in the global cotton market, with its strong export momentum continuing into 2025.
