Brazil set to become top cotton exporter.

Brazil is inching towards becoming a top cotton exporter in the world, eclipsing the US as the leading exporter for the first time. This shift is driven by a perfect storm: record Brazilian production, strong Asian demand, and adverse weather hurting US crops.

Brazil's cotton exports are expected to jump over 80 per cent this season, solidifying its lead over the US. This dominance is likely to continue in the medium term, pushed up by another record-breaking Brazilian harvest expected next season.

The US, which has held the top exporter spot since the early 1990s, is seeing its production and exports decline due to weather woes. While Brazil is already the world's number three cotton producer, China and India hold the top spots.

This isn't Brazil's first rodeo in the commodity export arena. The South American nation is already the world's coffee king, both in production and exports. However, cotton is a new frontier, and Brazil's rise has grabbed the attention of major cotton buyers like China and Vietnam.
