Coimbatore industrialists eye expansion in MP’s textile sector.
A delegation of industrialists and consultants from Coimbatore, a prominent textile hub in Tamil Nadu, visited Indore recently to explore investment opportunities in the textile sector. The visit, facilitated by the Association of Industries Madhya Pradesh (AIMP), aimed to connect Coimbatore-based spinning units with potential partners and locations in MP.
The delegation, which included representatives from Coimbatore-based spinning units, expressed keen interest in expanding their operations in Madhya Pradesh due to the state's abundant cotton resources and strong textile manufacturing infrastructure. The availability of raw cotton, being one of India's leading cotton cultivators, coupled with the presence of large textile and garment manufacturers, makes MP an attractive destination for textile investments.
Kasi Viswanathan, a consultant at a Coimbatore-based spinning unit, highlighted the potential of MP for their expansion plans. "We are considering investing at least Rs 100 crore to establish a new spinning unit in MP. With MP supplying a significant portion of our raw materials and being a major market for our finished products, it's a natural choice for us," he said.
In recent times, Madhya Pradesh has generated a lot of interest from textile industries across India, particularly Tamil Nadu and other southern states. The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has reported several inquiries and expressions of interest from investors, especially in the Neemuch region.
The Coimbatore delegation visited the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Dhar district and other industrial land parcels in the state. They also met with senior officials from MPIDC and held discussions with local industrialists to understand the business ecosystem and available facilities in MP.
The visit coincided with the recent roadshow of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Coimbatore, where he extended an invitation to investors for the upcoming Global Investor's Summit.
AIMP president Yogesh Mehta emphasized the potential of MP for textile investments. "We are excited about the interest shown by Coimbatore-based industries in setting up a spinning unit in MP. We have discussed potential locations, advantages, and the overall business viability," he said.
