Cotton prices rise in MP's Bhikangaon mandi

Madhya Pradesh’s Bhikangaon mandi is buzzing as cotton prices have touched Rs 7,500 per quintal. This increase has brought much-needed relief to local farmers.

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has initiated cotton procurement at support price, although initial purchases were modest. To ensure farmers benefit from the support price, they must register their cotton in the market. The registration process is simplified, requiring only an Aadhaar card, bank account, and Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

The market is witnessing increased cotton arrivals, with 185 bullock carts and 155 vehicles delivering the crop. The price range varies from Rs 5,558 to Rs 7,500 per quintal, with a model price of Rs 6,781.

Farmers are hopeful CCI's presence will stabilize prices and ensure fair returns for their hard work. The CCI is currently purchasing cotton with 8-12 per cent moisture content at prices between Rs 7,124 and Rs 7,421 per quintal. The mandi has assured farmers of timely registration and efficient cotton procurement.
