Eco-friendly textile park coming up in Ahmedabad.
A new textile industry park with cutting-edge environmental features will come up in Ahmedabad. Developed by Rupam Eco Green Textile Park, this 100-acre facility in Mahijadi village will focus on tackling pollution challenges within the textile industry.
The park's key attraction is its six million liters per day (MLD) Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system. This advanced wastewater treatment process recycles water and eliminates any liquid waste discharge. This innovative system boasts a 96 per cent water recovery rate, saving a massive 17 crore liters of water monthly, which is equivalent to the water needs of 30,000 people.
The ZLD system will directly address pollution concerns, says Nandan Shah, Chairman, Rupam Eco Green Textile Park. Water reuse and minimal groundwater extraction align this project with sustainability goals of achieving zero-waste and net-zero emissions.
This project is lauded as an exemplary industry-led initiative. Prashant Patel, President of FISME, highlights the park's significance. This is the second such sustainable industrial park near Ahmedabad, Patel said. It reduces pressure on the government while providing MSMEs with well-equipped land to focus on their core business.
The park is expected to attract around 50 textile processing units, creating substantial employment opportunities. This comes as a welcome boost for Ahmedabad's textile industry, which has seen some units shut down due to stricter pollution regulations in recent years.
Ahmedabad is a leading cotton textile hub with over 800 units and an annual fabric processing capacity exceeding 3,500 million meters. This eco-friendly park promises a sustainable solution for the industry, ensuring continued growth in this vital sector.
