Gujarat weavers urge expansion of PM Mitra Park in Surat
In a bid to boost Surat's textile industry, the Federation of Gujarat Weaver's Welfare Association (FOGWWA) presented a wishlist to NITI Ayog's Anna Roy. FOGWAA, a powerful association operating over 6.5 lakh power looms, emphasized the need for significant expansion.
They requested a three-fold increase in the size of the proposed PM Mitra Park textile hub, arguing that the current plan wouldn't accommodate future growth. Furthermore, FOGWAA demanded representation on the park's management committee to ensure weaver's voices are heard.
FOGWAA's vision extends beyond infrastructure. To create a long-term advantage, they proposed the establishment of a dedicated textile ministry within Gujarat. This ministry, coupled with a local textile commissioner's office, would provide focused support to the industry.
Finally, FOGWAA recognized the importance of skilled labor and called for the creation of a textile university. This university would equip future generations with the expertise needed to propel Surat's textile sector to even greater heights.
