ICAR approves two All India Coordinated Research Project Centres for cotton in Telengana
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has approved two All India Coordinated Research Project Centres (AICRP) for cotton in Telangana. This marks the state's re-entry into the national cotton research system after a decade-long absence.
PJTSAU, a leading agricultural university in Telangana, was unable to participate in national cotton research efforts since the state's bifurcation. Recognizing this gap, university's officials approached ICAR for the establishment of these new research centres.
The proposed centres, to be located in Warangal and Adilabad, will receive funding and staff support from ICAR, enabling them to conduct comprehensive cotton research. These centres are expected to commence full-fledged operations from the next financial year.
This will to boost India's cotton research efforts and contribute to the country's cotton industry. Telangana, with its rich agricultural heritage and strategic location, is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in this endeavor.
