India will have sufficient cotton supply for the 2024-25 season, as per the Cotton Season 2024-25 Committee on Cotton Production and Consumption. The announcement came after a committee meeting led by Roop Rashi, textile commissioner at the Ministry of Textiles, where industry stakeholders assessed production, trade, and quality enhancement efforts.

Rashi stressed the importance of increasing cotton yield per acre and enhancing processing standards to solidify India’s position in the global market. She highlighted that improving productivity would help attract foreign buyers across different stages of the cotton value chain, ensuring long-term procurement from India.

The meeting included representatives from the central and state governments, the textile industry, and the cotton trade. Discussions covered state-wise cotton production, imports, exports, and domestic consumption. Lalit Kumar Gupta, chairman-cum-managing director of the Cotton Corporation of India, highlighted initiatives like the Akola Model, which promotes high-yield agricultural practices.

The committee concluded that current production, alongside trade trends, will ensure adequate raw material availability for the textile sector. Continuous assessments will be conducted to support industry needs and maintain growth in the cotton sector.
